The College 1st (First) Program is based in Mission, Texas. We exist to promote the importance of completing a post-secondary education, bring awareness of different career opportunities through hands-on academic enrichment activities and mentorship experiences, and define the skills and attitudes needed for students to achieve college, career, and life success.
We work with students in their future. We strive to provide the best college readiness and career exploration student experience by implementing hands-on academic enrichment activities aligned with State Tests and Texas College Readiness Standards and real-world mentorship opportunities. We facilitate Career Exploration CAMPs on Science, Technology, Engineering Arts, and Math (STEAM) for PreK to 12th-grade students throughout the school year and the summer. We provide students with the knowledge, skills, and guidance to accomplish their future college, career, and life goals.
We also implement Family Engagement Sessions to promote the importance of post-secondary education, define college readiness, and engage parents in the college preparation and transition process. We implement the College 1st Program in partnership with visionary leaders from School Districts, Educational Service Centers, and Post-secondary Institutions. We have worked in partnership with special student populations including Title I, Migrant, Bilingual, GEAR UP, ACE Program, TRIO Programs, McKinney Vento, and Career and Technology Education (CTE) Departments.

Born and raised in Harlingen, Texas, Richard Uribe began working at the age of 10-years old at a local car wash. He would work weekends and summers until the age of 16 when he started working at McDonald’s Restaurants. Uribe’s journey took him to Los Asados. Uribe had visions of owning and operating his own restaurant. But he chose to come work at Los Asados and has served as GM for thirteen years. Uribe credits the mentorship provided by his employers for helping grow as a general manager and eventually now as owner and operator of Richard’s Mexican-American Grill.
